Digital Twin Technologies and Smart Cities

Edited volume from Farsi, Daneshkhah, Hosseinian-Far and Jahankhani, 2019, on using digital twins to monitor, diagnose and forecast city infrastructure, with attention to security.

Cities & places

This was an early book to put digital twins and cities together. Its chapters cover using virtual models of physical systems to monitor, visualise, diagnose and forecast city infrastructure. They also cover decision support, scenario testing and links to business systems. Security and safety get particular attention, for connected cities and for their Internet of Things devices (networked sensors and equipment).

The audience is practitioners and researchers in manufacturing, operations and communications, and graduate students looking for open problems. Springer published it in its Internet of Things series in July 2019.

Its origins are closer to industrial and infrastructure twins than to environmental ones. The book shows the manufacturing idea of a twin being carried over to the city.
