Digital Twin Technologies and Smart Cities

Edited volume from Farsi, Daneshkhah, Hosseinian-Far and Jahankhani, 2019, on using digital twins to monitor, diagnose and forecast city infrastructure, with attention to security.

Cities & placesSensory landscape

An early edited volume putting digital twins and cities together. The chapters cover how virtual models of physical systems can be used to monitor, visualise, diagnose and forecast city infrastructure, to support decisions and test scenarios, and to connect with business systems, and they give particular attention to the security and safety of connected cities and the Internet of Things devices they rely on. It is aimed at practitioners and researchers in manufacturing, operations and communications and at graduate students looking for open problems. Published in the Springer Internet of Things series in July 2019.

Its origins are closer to industrial and infrastructure twins than to environmental ones, which is also its value: it shows how the manufacturing idea of a twin was carried over to the city, and what came with it.
